PHOENIX, AZ (KPNX) — Arizona will not include homosexual sex education in its classrooms for at least one more year after a bill introduced by Arizona State Senator Martin Quezada that would have repealed a ban was never given a hearing.

“It speaks about the LGBT population in a shaming way and that’s not right,” said Quezada.

The bill had the support of the Phoenix Union High School Board that unanimously approved a resolution to include sex education for all of its students.

“The right thing is for all students to feel safe and protected on campus,” board member Stephanie Parra said.

Stanford Prescott with the Phoenix High School Board estimates there are roughly 3,000 LGBT or transgender students in its schools.

“It’s discrimination and it blocks our efforts to achieve full equality for the LGBT community,” he said.

Arizona is just one of eight states that have banned discussing homosexuality in a positive manner as part of a school curriculum. The other states are Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas and Utah.Read more: http://bit.ly/1KpYAJF
